Hi, I’m Barb Van Deurzen. I am a lifelong resident of West De Pere and my husband, John, and I raised our 5 children on our dairy farm in Hobart. I received my degree in Elementary Education from St. Norbert College.
I have been a School Board member since 2000. I’m running for the School Board again because I want to continue to represent the taxpayers of the district and to help all students receive the best education possible.
I feel that I am a good candidate because I have experience in dealing with all the changes that come with education. I have also been involved in 3 major renovations and 3 Superintendent searches.
The taxpayers that I talk to are interested in keeping the school taxes down and the Board being fiscally responsible with their tax dollars while still providing an excellent education to our students and maintaining great facilities.
We work hard to meet all students’ needs and educate them in diverse ways depending on how they learn best so that they can succeed in their community and the world.
We are trying to stay competitive with salaries and benefits for our staff and give them professional development and learning strategies to help them continue to be exceptional teachers.
I believe growth is the most important issue facing the WDP District. We are a growing community and there will be future businesses and homes built that will increase the number of students in the district. We have already purchased land in Lawrence for a future elementary school and we will continue to have population studies done as needed so we can plan for the next building project so it’s ready when needed.
I would be happy to continue to serve my community in this role if the citizens are satisfied with how I have represented them these past 23 years. Thank you!
