I'm 73 years old. My husband and I ran a dairy farm for 45 years while raising our 5 children. We retired from milking 5 years ago but still cash crop.
I've been on the WDP Board for 24 years and am an active parishioner at Our Lady of Lourdes.
Our 5 children and 8 of our grandchildren graduated from WDP and the last one is a sophomore now.
I have not received any endorsements at this time and have no political affiliation.
Some of my family have been or are involved with education over the years including myself and our daughter. So when I was asked to run years ago, I attended some Board meetings and I decided that I would like to run and felt that I had something to offer.
I had taught in the district, as had my mom and sister and my father instilled in me a strong respect for Education. Our children had received a great education at WDP and I wanted to be part of making sure that WDP remained one of the top schools in the area. We have a very dedicated staff that sees to it that all the children receive the best education. I wanted to be an integral part of that.
I believe that we need to continue to monitor our growing population so we are on top of having space available .We also need to continue to monitor our expenses and be fiscally responsible with our revenue.. We owe that to our students and taxpayers.
I agree with the upcoming referendum. We haven't done any major facility updates to our Tech Ed Dept in the last 3 referendums but our current numbers indicate that we need to expand that space. The numbers are continuing to increase for those classes but we've had to limit the enrollment in them. More students are opting to get a job when they graduate or go on to technical school instead of a 4 year college. The Trades are important to our community and area businesses are always looking for employees. Part of the carpentry program includes students building mini sheds to understand erecting a building and supplying it with electricity. Each of these is roughly 5x10ft. (I'm guessing) and 8 ft tall. They fill up the space we have very fast! And leave room for nothing else. Currently masonry can only be offered in warm weather because it's done outside behind the school. With this new space they can be offered at any time of year and will meet our needs.
I started 24 years ago feeling that I had something to offer and I still feel that way today. It's been an honor and a privilege to represent the taxpayers of WDP and I would appreciate your vote again in April.
